The Solar System Love Triangle

It only takes a late full moon night, a considerable distance in the destination and a 20km/h speedometer reading to reach a thought worth writing in a blog. With a thought came words and with words came a philosophy. A philosophy realising that the concept of a love triangle is not exclusive to romantic Hollywood movies, it isn’t a concept introduced by Katherine Heigl, rather it was the Solar System and the books of astronomy that had been shouting the presence of a major Love Triangle, for quite sometime.

On one side of the triangle is Sun, on the other is Earth, whereas the third side sits host to Moon. And if we add a little profile to our characters and bring some perspective to their relationship, we see that Sun is the hottest boy on the block, everyone revolves around him and everyone wants a little bit of that hotness and sunshine, all literally and figuratively.Sun is immensely self obsessed, is quite the narcissist and has learned to love no else, but him. Earth, on the other hand, has the sweet and cute thing going for her and she, like all the others, is greatly impressed by the persona of Sun and would not mind revolving around him everyday of the year. Moon is the naughty upcoming kid on the block and has fallen head over heels for Earth. He circles her day and night, but continuously fails to make an impression. Moon is trying to learn a few tricks from Sun, he tries projecting his aura, but is no match for the great star that Sun is.

Their strategies are simple, Sun believes and knows that he is too hot to be true, he is untouchable and that his hotness is what’s keeping the block alive. Earth is doing what every girl does in love, she’s making her presence known. She is around him every second of every minute, every minute of every hour, every hour of everyday, trying to get the attention of the man she loves. Moon on the other hand has resorted to a mix of strategies. He plays it naughty by only showing up at night, in the hope of a tryst.Tries coming close to Earth by slowly showing its limited yet unique glow and then starts playing hard to get as he starts fading away till he completely disappears.

Unfortunately like all love triangles, this one has been going on for centuries without there being a conclusion or a happy ending. Earth will keep loving Sun for the man he is, Moon will keep loving Earth for the lady she is and Sun will keep loving himself for of course the star he is.

If only we could have opened our eyes earlier to this beautiful projection, Katherine Heigl would not have had to work so hard at explaining the all so twisted concept of Love Triangles.

Here’s to the Sun, Earth and the Moon!
